IKAT RESOURCES

Ikat II by Lydia Van Gelder

I bought this book because I thought it might give me a place to start, beyond the basic theory that I already know.  I have found some very useful hints, but I was looking for more in-depth information on making ikat yardage, and this seems geared toward single pieces of ikat (no repeats.)  But, as I said, it's got some really helpful information that will allow me to figure out the rest myself.  I'm really only using the first few chapters, as the rest are step-by-step exercises in making more complex (but only single panel) ikat, and I'm not interested in that.  Images are OK, but not inspiring.

This is the gorgeous catalog that accompanied the exhibition of the same name that ran at The Textile Museum through the beginning of 2011.  I was able to attend the symposium that happened in conjunction with the exhibition, and brought home this book.  The essays are interesting and informative, and there is enough detail, variety, and design in these robes to keep an ikat enthusiast/ experimenter enthralled for hours.
